There was a thread where someone was asking about the relay,it may have gotten deleted.

So this is information for that person and others. There are 2 starter relays and they are located in the underhood fuse box,within a black box of their own. They are not serviceable. (That I am aware of)

Ive been seeing a rash of low mileage(23k was the lowest Ive seen so far) 2012-2014 Accords with starter failures.


While I do stongly advocate troubleshooting first,if you have an intermittent no crank, no start,(but full dash power and maybe a clicking sound) you probably have a bad starter,not the relays.

 

2013 accord 4 cylinder 55k miles


So, I got the battery, starter and alternator tested at OReillys, test result were :

when car started :
battrey :pass
starter : pass (~95 volts)
​​​alternator : failed (voltage was varying )

when car did not start (just click )
starter : failed (35 volts )

they suggested to replace both starter and alternator.

does this give any symptoms of any other issue ?
either electrical or mechanical?

guessing for some reason starter has to put extra effort to turn the flywheel? is it possible that it has more friction to turn ?

I did get extended warranty via previous owner , which was originally given by honda delaer.

have only powertrain left, while non-powertrain has expired , would it help me in anyway.

I know prior owner was rear-ended by a truck couple years back, would that accident might cause any issue like this ?

please suggest whats the best option for me in this situation.

 

I would replace the starter.


The alternator should be tested at a shop with the proper equipment, and properly trained techs,rather than a minimum wage kid at a parts store......
