Adding a OEM sunroof to '01 Accord without one
I would like to add an OEM sunroof to my #01 Accord. How hard is this to do? I got good skills. Big set of tools. Wizzer / sawzall etc.
Figure, electrical, run a line from the battery + to 40 amp relay under the dash , then up to the dash OEM sunroof control switch with pigtail. Wire in the factory pigtail with my relayed 12v source. Up the A pillar and to the sunroof rack motor unit. Or use the harness.
If I saw the roof up...crazy, will there be a place to mount the bolts for the sunroof frame? I am a little scared of this, but that's what makes me want to do it more. I want there to be something up there to bolt it to. The hole cut to dimension I could do. The headliner needs to be redone anyways. The electrical , no problem. The unkown is calling. So is fresh spring air.

There are several differences between the solid and sliding roof cars.
Sliding roof cars hole is not just cut out, it is stamped out and has a rolled lip for strength.
There are also reinforcements and drip trays that are part of the sliding roof structure not found on the solid roof cars.
Not to mention all the bits and pieces for the drains and wiring that will only be found on a sliding roof car.

- Easiest way to have a sliding roof, would be to purchase a car that already has it.
- Ghetto fabulous quick and dirty would be to install a pop-up style.
- You hate yourself method.
- Acquire complete roof/roofskin/bracing/sliding roof casette/drains/gutters/etc from a donor/yarde car.
- Gut interior
- Remove front and rear windscreens, remove roof seams
- Use a spot weld cutter to remove the 100-200 spot welds that hold the roof skin to the car.
- ????
- Profit
Not good. I noticed the OEM sunroof complete assemblies were $300+-.
I was having sawzall dreams looking at 4 panel panaramic sunroofs. I keep thinking it will fit.
I could throw a tube down something. Drain some fluid down a drip rail. Whatever she calls it, nowadays.
Thanks.
