Car Alarm
I'm about to ship my EF9 to the states and before I do so I would LOVE to install a car alarm with a back up battery for the obvious reason. What are some models/brands that you like and haven't had any issues with? TIA
Aftermarket alarms are always a surefire way to ruin an OEM cabin harness. They're messy, they have to be hacked in to so many original wires (the more 'functions' the alarm has the more of a hack job it is), and because their installs never have the same longevity as an untouched OEM harness, they often cause electrical headaches in a few years.
That being said, i've never had a car stolen from me so i don't see the value in it. I'm sure my attitude would change if i had.

I've had a Viper in my car for years without any trouble. I have keyless door handles, so it's a requirement. It's all about the installation, though, like sp33 said. I haven't heard of any specific alarm companies to avoid, though common sense would tell you that a cheapo ebay one should be avoided.
Probably removing a relay would also be a good idea too.

i had an alarm on my car, just a cheap one with a proximity sensor. I think the proximity sensor was great for making its prescence known.
Also had a real bright led at night.
That being said, I don't believe an alarm will stop a "good" thief. Sp if you want to thwart something more than jus a smash and grab.
I'd invest in a kill switch and quick release wheel.
