Default Advice on PCM/ECU Swap

Hey all,

I have this 2001 accord 4cyl sulev sedan. Was diagnosed with a bad PCM. I swapped it out with a salvaged unit. I know this PCM will need to be programmed to work with my car. I have the factory alarm.

My question is about the behavior after the swap. I read from somewhere that the car will start and idle for a few seconds... then die because of the alarm/disabler. I also read that the car will not start at all until it has it's PCM reprogrammed with the vehicles vin#.

My car, after the swap is not starting. It turns over... the key light is on... but it just turns and never fires up at all... no other lights besides battery and the key light on the dash. My old PCM would start and idle, but drive shitty and showed a check engine light constantly. It also would not rev past 3k and it would throw ignition codes.

Should I assume this PCM is good and have it towed to the dealership for reprogramming? Just looking for any confirmation this is correct before I plunk down the $150 they charge.

Thanks for any advice.. just want to say this forum is awesome and I couldn't have rebuilt this accord without it.

Default Re: Advice on PCM/ECU Swap

The Immobilizer System is part of the ECM/PCM; so, the ECM/PCM has to be reprogrammed to match the key transponder.

From one of your many related threads: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-...sulev-3312286/

Since your car is a SULEV, if you used a non-SULEV ECM/PCM, there is the real possibility the Honda dealerships will not re-program the Immobilizer System for you due to legal reasons; as the emission controls was altered from the use of a non-SULEV ECM/PCM.

I used a PCM from another SULEV... had to track one down on ebay. I couldn't find one in a local pick and pull.. there are 4 engine designations for this car, the sulev seems to be a bit less common than the others.
