After spending many hours beneath my dash (see thread about Main Relay) I discovered a good deal of wiring the car no longer uses. Can it be removed? If I were to pull my dash and de-loom the under dash harnesses could I cut out the unused wiring?

Note: The car has been converted to obd1, and I am using high impedance injectors, hence the unused wiring.

 

If the wiring isn't being used, why wouldn't it be able to be removed?

The trick is being able to correctly identify if it's still being used or not. Download yourself the workshop manual and make sure you're not accidentally removing something you shouldn't.

Also, hot tip. Don't cut the unused wiring. Depin it from both ends and remove the wire properly.

No probs, i use the small flat head that comes in these stanley screw driver sets. Makes it a piece of cake:



I'm sure there's other ways to release the pin clips but this one worked well for me.

 

wiring may not be used, but it is tied to other wiring in the car. be carefull of what you cut out.

 

This is EXACTLY what i think the root of my issue is.

The guy (Joseph Fowler) who initially installed my H2B setup and re-wired the swap, claimed to have "wired everything correctly and removed the junk". My car would have issues to start certain ECU's, so he said the issue was the tune. Now my car is tuned, and it refuses to start. Biggest headache of my life.

 

my car has an obd2 engine harness, obd1 ecu and is an 89. I left as much of the original wiring under the dash as possible because I cannot be certain what I do and do not need. In fact it took a few months for me to figure out the radiator fan wiring to get it right and that was due to some crossovers in the harness that I did not know about even with Honda wiring diagrams in front of me and having done a lot of custom wiring in the past.

I think you need to look at it as a non start issue. is it lack of ignition or spark...?
