Hello I'm having trouble with my 93 civic. Sometimes when driving the check engin light comes on the car is still driving at this point. The light stays on right before the car dies. The lights and dashboard stay on but the oil and battery light come on and the engine light shuts off. I'm just trying to find a reason for this before I start changing parts.

 

Any time the CEL comes on while driving, the first step is to read the code. On the OBD1 system, you short the test connector and count the blinks of the check engine light.

 

So I checked the codes and I got a 4 and 15 code. It's sounding like it's more the crank postion sensor. I've seen different things on where it's located. Iso this something that I can change.

 

It's inside the distributor. They're not generally sold separately, so replace the whole distributor. You will need to set the new distributor spark timing with a timing light. If there is a core charge, do not turn in your old distributor until you are sure the problem has been fixed.
