my DOHC ZC swapped EF civic sedan doesn’t go into the reverse position. It doesn’t feel like the transmission it feels like the shifter physically won’t go to that position. Could it be something blocking the shifter linkage? Does anyone have like a diagram or some info I can check out to see if somethings out of order? Thanks

 

Do you have this issue with the engine both running and not running?

Does your shift linkage have the roll pin (aka 'bitch pin') installed where the linkage connects to the transmission? I have seen some vehicles where folks have replaced this with a bolt or something else, which adds to the slop in the linkage, and could potentially prevent you from reaching reverse. Also, while you're under there, check the rest of the linkage for broken parts, worn parts, missing parts, and loose connections.

To determine if it is truly an issue internal to the transmission, place the transmission in neutral, disconnect the linkage from the transmission, and insert an appropriately sized drift pin or screwdriver into the hole in the shift rod coming out of the transmission (where the bitch pin goes). From underneath the car, looking at the back of the transmission, use the screwdriver/drift pin to turn the shift rod clockwise until it stops, then attempt to push it in. This is reverse. If it goes in, the issue is with your linkage. If it doesn't, you have an issue inside the transmission.
