ed6 zc swapped to b18a1?
I just picked up a 91 ed6 that was already zc swapped with a 5 speed. I have a lead on an inexpensive b18a1 so I am trying to figure out if it is worth doing the swap, then later putting a vtec head on it?
So you have an agressively cammed D16A6, essentially. B swap could be pretty straightforward; whether it's worth it is very subjective. VTEC head swap is a whole other can of worms. Do some research, decide what you're willing to commit to.
Thanks for the reply, being new to Honda its all a little overwhelming. Looking at the wikis the b18a1 would be a little bit of a power increase over the sohc non vtec zc I have currently, and the most likely to be able to swap a vtec head onto down the road? While the car is a base model it has been swapped to mpfi, just not sure if it is obdo or obd1 I am assuming obd0 since I have yet to find a data plug of any sort.
Pull the passenger carpet back and get the model/code off the ECU. That will tell you for sure. I'd bet on it being OBD0, which makes VTEC less appealing imho, especially depending on how the wiring was done. If you have a bunch of single wires running around the engine bay, then you probably want to go back through it all. Been there, done that.

In my opinion the b18a1is not a great option. They are very under powered and also prehistoric. I’ve converted the almost exact same setup you have to obd1. If it were me I would go that route. Anyway good luck.
