Ok so this happen yesterday I was driving and my car always shifts at low rpm from first to second if I'm not pressing the gas much in the 1.5 - 2.5 rpm now it's doing it at 3-4 rpms its a v6 ex coupe year 2000 i want to think it might be a sensor and not the transmission going bad because the idle is not constant sometimes under the regular 700 rpms please help me out, guys I really so appreciate any feedback thanks

 

If the engine is idling roughly or seems to idle abnormally high while parked, then I would address this issue first. These cars are notorious for automatic transmission failures but all may not be lost. First check your transmission fluid level. You need to locate the dip-stick, it looks like this:

Warm the car up, ideally take the car for a quick spin to warm the transmission fluid.
Keep the engine running with the transmission in P to check the fluid level.
Pull out the dip-stick, clean it with a rag or towel and re-insert it fully, then remove it.
Look at the fluid level and the markings on the dip-stick to confirm the level.

Do you have a Check Engine Light? Or do you have a "D4" light on your dash flashing? (If so, there are diagnostic trouble codes stored in either the transmission or engine control computers and they need to be read to further diagnose.)

Reasons it may be shifting at a higher RPM than normal:

• Failing Torque Converter
• Slipping Clutch Packs Internally
• Failure of an Engine Sensor (TPS, ECT, MAP)
• Engine Vacuum Leak
• Failure of a Shift Solenoid
• Failure of a Transmission Sensor
• Low Fluid Level

Used transmissions are a risk to buy as alot of them failed prematurely but are roughly $500-$800 and labor to install is rather extensive.
