Yes, you can do the swap. Yes, the transmission will bolt up. You will need the P07 ECU, and a custom harness to convert to OBD1 and be able to run the LAF sensor. Not sure about new crate engines, but there are websites out there that sell used / rebuilt Z1 engines - google 'D15Z1 for sale' and you will see some.

Just a suggestion from someone that has played the high MPG game before - you can get out cheaper and easier by finding an HF transmission and just bolting that up to the D15B2 engine. Spend a little $ doing a tune up and make sure the B2 is running well, and do some research on driving techniques to increase MPG. My best tank was over 50 mpg using an HF transmission on my B2, but I got tired of driving sooooo conservative and having a car that drove like a pig.

Thank you very much for info.. will look into that "HF'' and if you don't mind will ask more when i try that.. i am looking closer to high 30's i drive for work and as for speed ( i will have a toy on the side), even 40 would be nice.. right now i am getting mid 20s in my car and it is chugging $$$ away for work ( Mini Super Charger) i love the small end cars and i have wanted to go back to early 90s civic and CrX.. that's why i am asking for ideas on civic since i got a hold on for cheap

With driving techniques and the HF transmission, I was easily averaging over 40 MPG. But the transmission alone will not do it for you, you have to learn how to keep your foot out of the throttle when you drive.

I had a Geo Metro xfi (hence the name GeoMetry) my best tank ever was 72 mpg. I would coast whenever I could and I hated to touch the brakes. I would also hate to be behind someone that drove the way I did. It was fun but dangerous to drive that tin foil car. I decided to sell it when my son was old enough to drive just not enough metal to protect the occupants. Sold it for 5 times what I paid for it. Gas war over $5 per gallon at the time. I put a block of wood under the gas pedal, I basically "floored" it all the time.
