Only starts and runs but runs like shit when disconnecting crank sensor
2002 civic ...
Before this my car would start and throw a puff of black smoke and die in 2 seconds...
Now My car only starts and (runs) but runs funny with the crank sensor disconnected . Once I plug it back in it won’t start. Any ideas what else to look into? Maybe timing? I’ll be replacing sensor tomorrow.
This all happened after I ran over a big object on the freeway on my way to work . After it hit the object my car completely shut off and wouldn’t run it would only crank and start for 2 seconds and throw a puff of black smoke and die out.

Inspect the harness for damage. If the ECU isn't getting a proper signal from the CPS, you're going to have operational issues.
the crank honda crank sensors almost never go bad it doesnt matter how old the car gets
so yea i almost sure its something else
now have you ever done the timing belt on a 7th gen civic before?

ok will your in luck its really not too hard
try doing a little searching on hondatech here and look for a timing belt replacement video or picture thread
its really just matching up the timing marks
oh and when your doing the research always and i mean always find at least three places that tell you the same thing that being videos or threads or friends
that way youll know for sure what the real process is
but take your time with it
just take it one bolt at a time
if you want a general step by step let me know
i dont have any pictures or anything but i can type it out for you to fallow

Hey thanks for the info. While I was inspecting the timing belt I noticed it was loose so I removed the spring and I noticed my tensioner bolt hole was stripped and I had jumped a tooth. Now I'm looking for someone to install a helicoil or time sert on that stripped hole. I would do it but I'm not that comfortable to do something so delicate because I read that if it's even a bit crooked I'll mess it up. This bummed me out but at least I found my issue. Also would you happen to know if advanced timing could cause my car to over heat . im replacing the water pump already have it installed along with the thermostat .
