Default Hydro Tranny On EF

Hey so I finally got my swap running, the last thing I need to figure out is what to for my speedometer to work since I'm using a hydro tranny. I been doing some research but I am just getting confused. I was reading on a threat that you need to convert to an electric vss if you want vtec to function properly is this true? My main question is what are my options? so far I'm thinking cluster swap.

You do not need an electric VSS for Vtec to work. You can use a cable VSS on your hydro tranny and keep the stock cluster.

That signal will come from the ecu, from the original cluster the speed signal goes from this to the ecu and the tachometer signal or engine speed tells vtec to engage at operating temperature and with proper oil pressure.

do you have engine wilth cable speedo, stock cluster (not i-vt) and working vtec?
i have a few stock clusters but no one of them can send a signal about speed.

I have 2 swapped obd0 ef cars and they both have speedo cable setups in the transmission, not an electric derived vss. They both work well. The engine speed is what is important, it goes from the distributor to the ecu. Road speed has no bearing on whether vtec engages or not. You have other issues if it won't work. If you are using an obd0-obd1 conversion harness, it could be the issue. Check to make sure all wires go from point of origination to the proper pin port at the ecu. I use a voltmeter when issues arise and connect from the point of origination to the ecu as a dead short, no resistance end to end.

On the back of the cable dive speedo there is a speed pulser.
This does the same thing as a tranny mounted electronic VSS.
The signal from the back of the back of the cluster goes to the ECU.

I run a cable VSS on my Hydro ITR tranny with OEM 1990 Si Cluster. No Issues.
