Default 1994 Integra smoking

whats up ht I bought a 1994 Integra coupe and when I drove it home it was fine but it needed a new alternator because the battery wouldn't stay charged and it would die. I replaced the alternator and the old one was soaked in oil? Anyways to replace the alternator I had to take out the MC and scoot the lines over and squeeze the old one out and the new one in. Now there is lots of smoke coming from the exhaust and some from under the hood? I'm stumped. Maybe the prev owner had very thick oil inside when I test drove to hide it from smoking? It sat for like a week while I replaced the suspension lca's rotors and seats too. Maybe something accumilated? I also had the driver side lifted up on jack stands for about 2 days. anyways I was hoping you guys could give me ideas.....

Why was the alternator soaked in oil? Is the block covered in oil ? More info and pics would help.

Im not sure... I got the car like that. But its not burning oil. It's burning coolant and coming out of the exhaust. It wasn't doing that before I sat it on its side on jack stands...I'm guessing at this point.

You DO NOT need to remove the master cylinder to get to the alternator. Whoever told you to do that needs to stop working on cars.

You're actually supposed to remove the driver axle to remove the alternator. Your smoking is most likely from the oil or power steering leaking on the exhaust. It's very common for the distributor, valve cover, and oil plug (next to the distributor, on the side. Looks like a round black plug). The power steering lines run on the driver side. On the bottom near the fire wall, they go from steel to rubber line. It's common for the steel line to corrode because it's close to the bottom of the car. Also, coolant coming out of the exhaust may be intake manifold gasket.

You can swap out the alternator without removing the axle.

I don't know if there's a difference between 2nd and 3rd generation, but on my Integra, you CANNOT replace the alternator without taking the axle out. There is literally not enough room between the engine and firewall

Good to know that works on a tucked engine bay. I would not be able to do that with my car, because I have abs, and the power cable for my subs runs on the passenger side. Not all cars are created equal.
