Good distributor for 194 Prelude SI H23A1?
My distributor finally went on my 94 Prelude Si H23A1 230,000 miles. The OEM distributor is over 300 dollars so that is out of the question for an old prelude with high mileage. Anybody know of any decent aftermarket brands that wont break the bank? Or maybe try to find an OEM remanufactured unit?
What exactly "went out" ??? If you have a sensor failure... and you are getting a code 4,8 or 9... or the shaft seal is leaking oil into the housing... then you need to replace the distributor. If the car stopped running, the problem is likely your coil or ICM. Either of these can be purchased for far less than $300.00. Check the OHM resistance across the primary and secondary windings of the coil. Nine out of ten times this is the issue... and people toss away a perfectly good stock Honda distributor housing and replace it with a piece of **** Ebay or auto parts one for a hondo or less. Don't be that guy.
Oh, and a '93-95 H22A1 Prelude Si VTEC distributor will work just fine if you need another stock housing... the housing number is TD-61U.

Your assessment sounds reasonable... had you disclosed the bearing noise and the powdered material inside the housing, I would not have spent extra time explaining why you should keep it. As stated in my first response, I suggest you find a suitable used OE replacement instead of buying from the local auto parts store or Ebay. Remember that you need a TD-61U housing, which came on all '92-95 Prelude Si (H23A1) and '93-95 Si VTEC (H22A1) applications. There is a JDM equivalent as well, so you could contact JDM Importers like HMotorsOnline and see if they have one for sale. Local junk yards may be helpful as well.
Yeah should've posted that in my original post. I found this, it's a used OEM unit they say, for $55 which is well within my budget. I cant seem to find any reman OEM distributors. So I guess it's this or a new aftermarket one, which would be more expensive. I checked out that site, I couldn't find any distributors but they have my engine with 50,000 miles for 950 dollars so that's good to know should I want to replace the engine in the future, thanks for making me aware of them.
