Cabel trans to hydro gear / bearring swap
What's up guys im doing my first transmisson rebuild in a ls hydro tranny from a 92 teg (I believe). I pulled the bell housing apart and I see the part that goes into the differential is moving around with alot of play (where the halfshaft sits? I belive) I'm assuming it's a bearring and spacer or something like that in there really don't know I am a noob. Most likely this is what's causing hard vibration during low rpm acceleration. So my question is can I replace the diff or just the bearings itself in the ls hydro with the one from a gsr cabel trans or a ys1 cabel trans ? If so is there any benifit to this and is there any benifit from swaping the gear set as well.
Yes, the diff is a straight swap, just be sure to use your ring gear on the new diff. If you have the complete final drive from the GSR (ring gear and countershaft) you can swap it out for a little bump in acceleration in all gears, with a slightly higher cruising RPM.
Thanks man , I actually have the full transmission it's just cabel trans and I don't wanna do a conversion. I read somewhere that you can't actually use the countershaft from a cabel into hydro because the shift forks won't aligne, and that the countershaft won't match with the diff ring , is this true ? If not can i just straight swap the diff ring gear counter and main shaft from the cabel into the hydro casing using the original shift forks?
92-00 countershafts are all the same fitment wise (excluding the 98+ JDM ITR).
If you want to use the cable GSR FD you simply swap the ring gear and countershaft (the shaft itself, not the complete assembly). Swapping the mainshaft is not a basic DIY procedure and requires specialty tools for setting the shim clearance. Changing the gears (except for 5th) will require you to change the sleeve assemblies and shift forks as well, as VTEC and non-VTEC use different sized synchros, hubs, sliders and shift forks.

Cool.. you're the best dude.. So if I swap the fd from the gsr I would have to take the gear set off the ls countershaft and put it on the gsr countershaft and this will work with the original ls shift forks and ls mainshaft? i can just slide off the gears and syncros at once and lift them onto the gsr countershaft right no need to shim anything or check clearances? One last question im sorry man , so there's no way I can use the 2cnd gear synchro from the gsr into the ls shaft? My ls trans doesn't downshift into 2cnd unless if I shift like I'm going into first but instead I bring it down and it slips into 2cnd.
