H22A light throttle bucking
Hello H-T, this problem has been bugging the s*** out of me for 3 months now so i will be as thoroughly descriptive as possible about the issue and my car in general. First of all i have tried several things myself and read many threads on here and other sites and found no real answer. My car is a '95 civic ex coupe with a '94 H22A swap ive had car since '09 and did the swap back in '10. The swap is for the most part stock. Stock intake, stock tb, i did install a preprogrammed chipped P28 from phearable.net about 8 months ago and had no issues for 5 months of DD. Then started bucking/bogging at light throttle and it popped a code 7 TPS code. So i checked it out and it was waay off and didnt have a smooth rise in voltage so i replaced with an Omnipower TPS also from Phearable. I calibrated it and had to twist as far as it would go towards the passenger side to achieve 0.49 volts and when i had my gf press the pedal to the floor it would only go to 3.99 or 4.00 and when she let off it would drop back to 0.53. If i push on the throttle wheel a bit it goes back to 0.49-0.50. I tried adjusting WOT to get closer to 4.50 but there was no way to do that with out throwing off the closed throttle setting. It bucked waay worse with it set at 4.32 WOT (highest i can get) and closed throttle at 0.95 so i put it back to 0.49 ct and 3.99 wot. The CEL is gone but it still bucks at very light throttle taking off from 1st in heavy traffic or if im cruising at say 40mph with the throttle barely pressed, However it does idle perfectly fine. Ill also mention i did break the tps connector about 3 years ago but i soldered and heatshrinked a new connector on. My tb is fairly clean i cleaned it 3 years ago at that time i removed the throttle plate and lightly polished it with a dremel and reassembled making sure it didnt stick at all. Its been my DD for 7 years and i did that tb cleaning and connector replace 3 years ago with no issues til 3 months ago. Just trying to be descriptive as possible. All i can think of is maybe something wrong with my TB but it seems fine and spring is still tight or maybe my throttle cable with 196k on it? Please help guys
Just realized i posted my novel of a post in the wrong forum. Should have done it in Tech/ misc. Hopefully i can still get an answer here. If not i guess ill try cleaning the IACV then the throttle cable then if that doesnt work idk. A new stock size tb for h22 are impossible to find, and its my only car i dont have time to get my IM port matched to a pointless larger tb on my stock engine. Can someone shed some light before i start shooting parts at it til its fixed?
People always are complaining about people not accurately describing their problems then when you type out a 47 line description nobody bothers to spend all of 5 minutes or less reading it.
Sorry to dig this up but it’s the first thing that comes up when you do a search for any h22 bucking issue and his issue was identical to mine.
I have a CB7 with h22 swap that the tps went out on. In my case it threw no code but when the car tried to go past 2500rpm it would fall on its face until idle or I pushed in the clutch. I started unplugging sensors (luckily it was the first one I tried) and unplugging the tps threw a CEL and the car drove fine. Put a new auto parts store TPS in and all was well... for a week.
A week later it started bucking exactly as you described. Part throttle bucked like crazy just push the throttle enough to start accelerating and it would clean up and stop. Using the KISS (keep it simple stupid) method of trouble shooting I went back to the last thing I touched. The TPS. I tried re adjusting it and all voltages were correct, everything looked fine like it should work. But I still had this part throttle bucking. So I did the same thing I did before. I unplugged the tps, the CEL came on and all was well. Ran perfectly. Bought ANOTHER TPS from a different parts store and it’s been running fine ever since.
I would hope that in 3 years you figured it out but this is for someone searching the forums who might have this problem as well.
