Tires for my 95 Civic dx
Hey, I'm looking at buying new tires and I used to drive with the tire size 175/70/R13 but then I used 185/65/14 and I guess basically my question is what is the big deal in tire size? Am I better to stick with my normal size or do the slightly wider ones give more stability? I'm not sure what the pros and cons are.
thanks
thanks
The VX takes a weird size to reduce rolling resistance. They're narrow, but the fuel mileage is good, especially if you run the stock super light VX alloys.
First you need to know if you have 13 or 14 inch wheels, because the tires will not interchange between wheel sizes. As others noted, the DX came with 13 inch steel wheels, but it is a direct match to refit 14 inch steel wheels from an EX, or 14 inch alloys from a VX / HX. I have found ordering on line ship to the store from walmart.com to be a good source for 13 or 14 inch daily driver tires. If local stores have any in stock, it will be a very limited selection.
my walmart now has a totally bogus lifetime rebalance charge.
adds up to like $22 to mount and balance any loose wheel and new tire i bring in.
fug that time to look elsewhere...

Thanks guys for all the replys, but I guess I still don't understand. I have a 95 civic DX sedan and the stock size is 175/70/13. That is the size of tire I used up until a year or so ago. Someone told me that 185/65/14 would provide me with more stability while driving. I didn't think anything of it at the time but I think ge may have just been trying to sell me a tire. So does a change in tire size like that really offer more stability? Or was I a dumb blonde and just fell for it? I've been working hard to take care of my car and have learned a lot out of sheer desperation to be a good steward of my car. So tires weren't anything I thought much of till now. So I just want to know what the deal is in tire size. I think I should probably just stick to recommended stock size, but then I see some prefer other sizes so I'm just wondering why change from recommended stock? Don't the manufacturers know best?
The last number in the size is the diameter (in inches) of the hole in the center of the tire where it mounts onto the metal part of the wheel.
You cannot go from 13 to 14 without changing the wheels. They simply will not fit.
I don't think there is a big enough difference to justify buying new wheels. 14 inch tires are about as scarce as 13s now.

a 14" tire with the same overall diameter as a 13" tire will have less sidewall flex as there is simply less sidewall which does translate into less body roll/greater stability. It's not going to be a huge difference but it is noticeable. Going to say a 15" rim and a 195/50/R15 is a much more noticeable but the tires cost more.
