im about to buy an eg hatchback ,i want to put a new engine it and figure out what harness i need to use and where to start. Basically i dont know anything about a standard engine .The body doesnt need any work i just have to paint it . my main focus is getting the engine in and running great.

 

You are going to need to be a lot more specific about what engine you want to swap in and which one is currently in the car. Actually, just search. I guarantee there are write ups no matter what engine it is.

 

Your best bet is hop on a Facebook page that’s local to you or Craigslist to find a complete swap that you can hear run before they pull it. A complete swap being the motor, trans with linkage, motor / trans mounts, wiring harness, and ecu. Then from there when you pull the motor out of your hatch make sure you take lots of pictures and but the new swap in. I hope this was somewhat useful and hope to see update pictures !!

You read like you have no engine knowledge at all. If that is the case, it would be best to not rush into something like this.
