When I replace oil in my 4 cylinder 1999 it takes 4,5 quarts.

For the dipstick reading this is a tuff one - pull it out of the tube...

...oh yes, I also put on my glasses.

Good luck,
Sam

You always just put 4 quarts in and then drive to the nearest gas station that appears to have a fairly level surface and check the dipstick with the car off. If the ground is a little bit less level then turn the car around to the same exact spot and check again and it will normally be the average of both checks. It is normally about a quart from the low mark on the dipstick to the high mark on the dipstick. You would normally just add about half a quart to bring it about halfway before stopping. It's better to be halfway than to be over the top line on the dipstick.

Most 5 quart jugs of new oil have a see through area on the side where you can see how many quarts is left from the jug.
