Car will not start, gear shift locked

Car will not start, gear shift locked
A couple of times when I have gotten into my Honda Civic, nothing happens when I turn the key. The car is totally dead. I cannot move the gearshift from Park to Drive. The car is totally dead. But if I disconnect and reconnect the battery, then it starts and runs fine. Does that mean that the car's computer is messed up?
