I have a 99 civic with a b20b in it. I let somebody mess with it while I was gone and they let it run hot and it cut off. Now when I crank the car it only wants to run for a minute then cuts off again and won't start for a while. Im getting gas and fire on plugs.

 

Almost always, if someone drives an overheated car until it completely stops going, it will need a new engine.

 

Compression test It and see if you still have compression. If it has fuel and spark it should run, how do the plugs look? My best guess is the heads warped and the plugs are getting oil or coolant on them and are unable to combust properly. I would assume if you spun a bearing or bent a rod you would be posting that you hear something wrong as well. If you cracked a ring or a piston you would have poor compression numbers.

Is there smoke coming from the exhaust? Oil in the coolant? Does your Oil look like echolocate milk?

We just drove my wifes 99 with B20 to Vegas and back and she ran like a champ. Aluminum Dual core radiator for the win. The stock rad would let things get hot in high temp high load situations.

How hot did it get, how long was it hot for? Best case you severely shortened the life span of the engine and worst case you spend $399 and buy a new B20.

 

The have Vending machines in Japan where you insert coins and B20's pop out in a little plasic egg. lol

 

when you let idiots (who have no clue what they're doing) work on your car, you are asking for trouble. Make that ****** pay for the repair/replacement. I would also advise not to let him work on your car in the future.
