Default Back To Basics

So I recently joined Honda Tech, and im almost done with my hatch, just need registration and all that stuff, a swap is currently being planned but what i would like to know is what i can do with my D15B7 to make it more reliable, im still young and just getting into cars, learning what i can at school and from others. so what would i need to build a good platform to know where i stand with the car? like a tune up, also, anyone know how to increase the gas mileage a bit? i got the weight reduction part done... (When i got the car it was previously stolen and stripped)
Thanks for the help!

Welcome!

A nice, thorough baseline would be good for reliability and mileage. You mention a tune; so cap, rotor, plugs, maybe wires, then set timing. Change oil and filter, make sure they are good. Check air filter, change fuel filter.
Check all your systems; belts, hoses, radiator (change coolant?), brakes, suspension, etc...

It is amazing how much you find just by spending a little time under the car!

Good luck.

First and foremost- make sure it is safe to drive. Good tires and brakes are essential before you need to worry about making it go fast! And don't overlook your suspension and steering components. Have fun with your 'new to you' ride.

Cheers
