Hey all,
Have a 2001 accord 4cylinder sulev. Has a brand new distributor, cap, rotor and a brand new alternator. Car has had some electrical gremlins. Twice while at a stop light the car just loses rpm's and dies. Fires up again each time. Twice also it has almost stalled during warm up.. car fires up... idles... them rpm's drop and it almost stalls, then recovers and idles fine again.
I have no idea what I should pay attention to next to work out this issue... I need this car to run fine as I have a trip planned next month. Any ideas?

hook that up and gently lay the hood on top of the gauge with the gauge facing through the windshield to you, drive around and see if fuel pressure is cutting off before it dies

Awesome idea, my first suspicion was fuel. I usually replace a fuel filter when things like this happen, but the filter is internal, correct? Is there an external fuel pump or is that internal as well?
By 2001 the filter was the fuel pump sock. They did away with the external under hood filter. Is the pump getting tired ? There is no port to hang a fuel pressure gauge that I 'm aware.
Pull the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose , and see if that effects the issue. The pump will work a little harder, they also upgraded the fuel pressure regulator to overcome EGR "hot soak" problems.
It did , or it did not do this before changing the cap ? Was the cap and rotor replaced ? Inspect the coil contact point on the cap. Is there a melted output pin on the coil tower?

Cap and rotor came new with distributor. Lately the car has been running mostly fine, but on some starts the engine will idle fine... then rpm's drop to like 250 and it struggles for a minute... then climbs back up. If I rev it when this happens it recovers and doesn't stall thankfully.
The old distributor was leaking oil, Is there a sensor below the distributor that could become disrupted by oil contamination?
