2011 Honda Civic Bad A.C. compressor
I'm from Michigan and just got home from a 5700 mile road trip to the Rocky Mtns. Early on in the trip it was very hot in South Dakota and we were cranking the A.C. My friend was driving and had the cruise control set while going up a hill which led to my car getting up to 6000+ rpms. I didnt hear a loud noise or anything but it was at that point the A.C. stopped working. For the rest of the trip the A.C. compressor(I assume) would make a loud rattling noise especially while idling. Got it checked out in Montana and they said my belt was fine, and it wasnt an urgent issue, and didn't fix it. Now I'm back in Michigan and was driving it around tonight and right before I got home at a stop light my car really started smoking. It was a burnt rubber kind of smell and it appeared to be coming from a pulley at the passenger side of my car close to the headlight. Just looking for help diagnosing the problem.
Thanks,
Tyler

I would be surprised if the ac compressor bearing already went out on that car but I suppose you may simply just have a bunch of miles and didn't disclose it. Pics are always wise so people can see what you're talking about. There's a few pulleys on this motor. If it's the ac compressor bearing you can temporarily install a DX model belt on the engine to bypass the pulley if you just wanted to get around without necessarily replacing the pulley yet. It's more likely the issue is the tensioner pulley and you can either replace the assembly or you can just replace the tensioner pulley itself. The pulley and the assembly both use a T50 torx socket. You will need to pull the water pump pulley off and you can do that by wedging a 1/4 inch drive 3 inch extension in the pulley hole where it will bottom out against the block so you can pull the bolts off.
