Default H22A4 aluminum oil pan into H22A

Question is as the thread tittle say, does an aluminum oil pan from a 97-01 H22A4 fit on a 95 JDM H22A block?

My motor H22A came with a steel oil pan which is in very bad shape. Want to replace ot with an aluminum one.

It will work just fine on the older engine... remember to use the longer bolts with the aluminum pan instead of the shorter ones that work with the steel pan.

Holy wrong info Batman... would you two please stop.

Part number for 1994 Prelude Si VTEC oil strainer: 15220-POA-C00 (This fits the steel pan, part # 11200-PTO-010)
Part number for 1998 Prelude base oil strainer: 15220-POA-C00 (This fits the aluminum pan, part # 11200-P5K-010)

So, as you can see... as I stated to the OP above, the oil pick-up/strainer is the SAME part for either pan... so as long as the one from the older engine isn't damaged from a dented oil pan, it will work perfectly with the newer style aluminum pan.

Ok then, after all discussion, which I appreciate, do I need to change the oil pickup?

To add a bit more to story and to clarify, I have a del Sol with an H2B setup. Using a JDM H22A, GSR trany, with PLM kit. As you may be aware, with this setup you need to trim a lot of the oil pan where it mates to the block which left very little surface for the gasket to seal. Speaking about . In other words that **** will leak. Talking about a steel oil pan obviously. Also my steel pan is a piece of **** and I don't want to replace with another shitty steel crap.

Being said that, as the aluminum oil pan seals without a gasket, with silicon, even with the surface left after trimming it will seal properly or a lot better. I know that there are H2B oil pans for approx. $400. Don't want to expend that. The car is in PR and I moved to Miami. I probably will end selling it.

I will have to purchase parts in order to install when I travel to PR for Christmass. And an oil pickup for H22, I don't think will be easy to find taking into account that the latest is 17 years old, and that is a part that almost never is ordered or replaced.

Again, will I need a new oil pickup or not if use 98+ aluminum oil pan with JDM 95 or older H22A?

This picture of the QSD/Moroso H2B oil pan shows how thin is the surface left to seal. With steel oil pan and gasket, that will leak...

Now you have thrown a curve ball at the discussion. If your H2B kit leans the engine forward like a "B" series, the your pan and pick-up will not be parallel to the ground, and thus, ANY stock style pick-up will require a bit of extra oil to make sure the pick-up stays bathed in oil. Even though you aren't interested in spending the big cash, the custom Moroso pan and pick-up will be the right choice.

If you still intend to try and make a stock style pan and pick-up work, you will need to do as everyone here has told you and use the pick-up that matches the pan you want to use. The good news is that the pick-ups all happen to be the SAME, so yes, you can use the one you have on the engine now and simply install the modified (to clear your H2B parts) aluminum pan.

Thanks!

Also, I don't think that the Moroso H2B does come with a different oil pickup. Don't seem to come with one.

I did it on my h22a1 and it seem to fit fine. So I don't see why it won't work

Hello again.
Back with this theme.

I found a used h2b oil pan, but without the pickup tube. Can I use the stock pickup tube, or does the stock can be modified to fit?

No you need to use the matching/recommended pick-up for the brand H2B pan that you have purchased.

Anyone who takes the time to read this discussion should know that the new aluminum oil pans for the US H22A4 engines DO indeed use a different oil pickup than the JDM H22A steel pans. The Aluminum oil pans are not as deep as the steel pans and will need the pickup designed for the aluminum pan. The steel pan uses an oil pickup that has a larger bottom on it. Unfortunately many people go by what they think they know and do not actually have experience with these things and I have yet to see anyone post a picture of the difference between the two oil pickups so I will include pictures of the two pickups.
