Default Solenoid? Alternator? Starter? Main Relay?

Hello everyone. Thanks in advance to any help.

I have a 96 accord, and yesterday I left the ignition partially on for an hour or so, (you can take the keys out while the engine is still running). I attempted to start the car and got nothing, no clicking sound, but he battery is fully charged. Someone said the alternator may have burned out, or the solenoid or maybe the battery relay. If the ignition were left in the "on" position, would that burn out any of these systems? The dash lights, dome and head lights still come on and don't dim. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it. T

Do you see warning lights come on when you turn your key to "ON"?

What happens when you turn your key to "START"? Do you hear any clicking, does the engine try to start?

Good luck,
Sam

PS This is a very dangerous situation when you can pull your key out of the ignition and your engine still runs. It needs to be fixed ASAP!

The engine check light comes on for a second and the oil and battery lights stay on.
There is no clicking and it doesn't try to start.

If you can do this I would expect that the switch is worn out and not making the connections that it should as you turn the tumbler. do you hear the fuel pump prime?

Go under the hood of your car, get a piece or wire and jump from the positive terminal of the battery to the solenoid on the starter to see if it turns over (Make sure it is in Neutral!). If the starter turns over, the switch may be bad or the wiring/fuses associated with the starter signal.
