I was talking to some guys at my Formula SAE car meeting and we figured out that if you cut the shift linkage from the metal shifter, and weld it a bit higher, this would effectively lessen the throw, but we were unsure as to how the linkage geometry will be effective. Check out http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fifth-shifter/shifter.shtml for pics.
Peace.

This is exactly what the DC sports short adapter does.'

But it raises the angle of the linkage so its harder on it...There has got to be a better way..

Maybe if you put the adapter behind the shifter...but that may not engage gear properly.....You'd have to make some prototypes.

I wouldn't be fabricating anything, unless I needed to (we have a machine shop and a lot of stock to work with). I was thinking simply cutting the link off at the bar and welding it higher. If anyboy has any ideas feel free to share. Peace.

welding it higher would work...like I said before that is EXACTLY what the DC adapter does, it just relocates it..

Welding it higher is fine, but it puts more stress on the linkage just like the DC shifter.
