Default Speed sensor compatibility

I took the S40('96-00) out of my '97 and put an s20(92-95) trans back in. Right now I'm throwing a CEL for speed sensor low voltage. The S40 has a one piece speed sensor, and the S20 has a two piece, the lower half of which is held by one 10mm bolt (seized). Instead of breaking that off in the casting trying to swap the two, can anyone confirm that the S20 part works with a stock 97 ECU? If it's just a bad speed sensor, I'd rather pay the $20 for the part than deal with the heartache of trying to swap in a free part and breaking a bolt.

Well I got the bolt out with a little bit of kerosene, but the lower piece is still fused to the trans lol.

Drop the tranny. Better access that way.

What? No. I have pretty good access. My question is: Do 92-95 speed sensors work with 96-00 ECU's?
