2000 CRV Engine sputters and dies.
Hey,
I've seen a few posts regarding this. I've tried several fixes but nothing seems to work. I have a 2000 CRV with about a 178,000 miles on it. I've had issues with the engine sputtering and dying completely, and it seems to be getting worse over time. It used to just be at red lights, but now I can hardly get it out the driveway. I've noticed that it will idle all right when it's in park, and will get worse when it's in drive and especially if I turn the AC on. Here is a list of everything I've done myself. I've also been very regular with oil/transmission/radiator fluids.
-Replaced the 02 sensors.
-Replaced the MAP sensor.
-Replaced the distributer cap.
-Replaced the fuel filter.
-Replaced the catalytic converter.
-Replaced the fuel pump.
-Did a valve adjustment and replaced the valve cover gasket and the spark plug rings. (The spark plugs were oily, but this didn't fix my main issue)
-Cleaned out the Idle Air Control valve.
-Replaced the ignition switch (I saw there had been a recall on those)
I was thinking about replacing the whole distributer and rotor, but I've seen posts where someone had done that and it not working.
Any advice would be a great help!

you check vacuum lines, engine grounding points? also, do the exhaust flow check to see if you have a burnt valve. why do you think its a problem with your spark? have you tested the plugs out of the cylinder to see if they are firing? sputtering from the engine can be a simple fix or a catastrophic failure on these cars. at some point you have to decide to stop slowly bleeding cash and either replace the engine or sell the car.
The rotor is the ignition rotor inside the distributor. Usually replace when changing the distributor cap. Sputter and die could also be the coil and/or igniter inside the distributor.
