Low acceleration and shifting issue
Hey guys new to this I just bought a 95 Civic automatic noticed there is a bad acceleration like very slow almost dangerous pulling in traffic and it doesn't shift where it supposed to any ideas to what it could be any ideas would be much appreciated
I would check the transmission fluid first. If it is black or dark brown, I would drain and fill it with only Honda brand transmission fluid. Don't flush it. Just drain and fill. Flushing can actually harm an older transmission because any particles in the old fluid can get embedded in the tiny passages of the transmission and it can cause it to stop working at all. The next thing I would do is test the pressure before and after the catalytic converter. A clogged catalytic converter causes "exhaust back pressure" which means it prevents the exhaust gases from getting out of the cylinders, and that in turn gets in the way of enough air getting into the cylinders, and with less fresh air in the cylinders the engine generates much less power. There are videos on YouTube on how to change transmission fluid yourself (I have done it) and how to check for a clogged catalytic converter. Look for videos by Scotty Kilmer, ChrisFix and Schrodinger's box.
It could also be other things. The fuel pressure is what I would check next if the above didn't happen to be the problem. You can also check the engine air filter and the spark plugs but it is less likely that they are the problem and if you just swap them out you may have just wasted that time and money.

If you have a check engine light on, have that checked for free at a place like AutoZone and ask them to tell you what the codes that are found, if any, mean. Or, if either one of the oxygen sensors got knocked off or damaged when the muffler and pipe got knocked off, then the lack of the oxygen sensor or a broken oxygen sensor could be part of the problem.
