Taking the cylinder head off, how to fully unbolt the intake mani?
Hello,
First time posting. I am taking the cylinder head off my 03 honda civic. I am about the tackle taking off the IM. But I have heard of people taking it off without removing the entire throttle body assembly, but just being able to pry it back and remove the head. How is this done? Should I get under the car in order to get the bolts off the IM. Or are the bolts accessible from the top of the engine? Any diagrams of this would be very helpful.
Thank you

There are 2 bolts (1 on each end) 2 long nuts (on top) and another nut at the center that hold the intake manifold on the head. There are also some bracket under the manifold that need to be removed.
Thank you
I have taken off the two 12mm long nuts on the top. And the center nut in the middle. I have a picture of the three. Two circles on right and left for the 12mm. and the middle circle for the 12mm nut I took off. In this picture it shows it's on but I have it off now. I try to rock the intake manifold back and forth but it won't budge. Are there more bolts to take off?
I see there are 5 nuts or bolts on the black plate, do those need to come off? They are rusted on there.

There are brackets under the intake. Did you take those off? They hold the intake up. I removed all bolts, nuts holding them in place to take the brackets off.
which black plate you aren't you referring to?
the link doesn't work

I took off the brackets. The two long 12mm nuts. There are like 5 other nuts and bolts holding on the intake that I cannot get because they are so badly rusted and trying to use a box wrench on them only rounds them. So the option of getting the intake is not feasible now. My idea is to take the cylinder head and intake mani+throttle off as one big assembly. What do you think of this? Then I can work off those rusty bolts on my workbench and replace them. I am not sure if this is a good idea or not because I've never done this job before.
My next steps for getting the cylinder head off is to put a block of wood on the bottom of the oil pan with a hydrohalic jack and then take off the right engine mounting bracket to lower the engine. I already have the 19mm crank bolt and woodruff key freed. Just got to get it back in to put the car is TDC. After that I will have to take off the timing belt and tensioner. And with the valve cover removed start undoing the head bolts in reverse tightening sequence. Here, will I be doing damage to the cylinder head and/or head bolts due to the intake manifold still being attached? Was worried about them bending when I take off them off one-by-one with the added bend back of the intake manifolds weight pulling them back.
Thanks
That may work. I'm not sure if there is enough space to remove both ath the same time.
I don't understand why the intake isn't coming out. Sounds like you removed the necessary hardware for it to come off.

Heres a picture of the D17A engine. The intake manifold the is bolted to the head has 2 pieces. Both will come off if you remove the hardware I described. Here is a picture of the head without the intake so you can see which are necessary to remove.
There are 3 studs, and at the ends there are 2 bolt holes.
