Default Transmission fluid

Is it ok to put Castrol Dexron lll/Mercon transmission fluid in my Honda Civic ?

No. You should use Honda ATF-DW-1.

I would follow toyomatt's advise but as an FYI my 04 civic has 250k miles and I've been using dexron since it had 30k miles with no notable issues.

The problems come when you don't regularly service the transmission.
