Default Brake dust shield

Sup ht quick question, how do you get the brake dust shield off? I only have basic tools, can't remove the rotor(screws are fooked) if you guys wanna tell me how to get those off too, great!

Would a small electric reciprocating saw maybe do the job lol that's the closest I got to a power tool.

Why are you taking them off?

You'll have to drill out the retaining screw to get the disc off, its still tight to get to the shield bolts with it off.

I'm pretty sure you have to be able to press the hub off to get teh dust shield off if my memory serves me correctly.

That's why I just did my best to straighten out the bends on the replacement knuckles when I swapped mine. I wanted to swap the dust shields but without getting the hubs off, I saw there was no way that was happening.

The front hubs are pressed on.

You can drill out the flathead screws in between the wheel studs that hold the rotor on. You do not need to replace them. They are only there so the rotor doesn't fall off as the car goes down the assembly line with no caliper or wheels attached. In use, putting the wheel on and tightening the lug nuts will hold the rotor in place.

But it sounds like that won't be enough to get to the dust shield. If you ever drive in the rain you should try to keep one on because otherwise the rotor getting wet will really impair your brakes.

what kind and size drill bit would I be using?

Perfect brakes, no fade no warping no nothing. Have any more reasoning behind that?

I don't know if I'm the only guy in the world but when I lower my car it always starts rubbing on it in no time. Pushing it back will just lead to it coming back in a few days. On my first car (stock height, east coast car) one of them was so rotted it fell off while I was driving and got stuck in the rotor making that one wheel come to a complete stop at 45 mph, so yeah I'm not too fond of them.

Use a regular steel 3/8 inch twist drill in the center of the stripped out Philips part until the head of the screw comes off. You should not need to touch the metal of the rotor.

I know you still need to get the rotor off purely so you can do a brake job.

However, it's not going to help you with the dust shields unless you are going to cut the shields off after needle nose vice gripping the screws out holding the dust shield on.

See the pics to see how the hub prevents removal of the shields, I just took these of one of my old knuckles from the 95 hatch.

Oh wow that sure sounds like fun. Idk if I'd even be able to fit those in. I can't get anything on that screw and have it actually stay there while applying pressure that spot is so tight.

Yeah think I'm just gonna suck it up and buy a angle grinder
