Default 1992 Civic, Trunk wont latch

On my 92' civic ex my trunk wont latch. The latch itself locks and opens fine, doesn't get stuck but whenever I close the trunk it doesn't latch and won't close. I've adjusted both the latch and locking bar, put washers and extended the bar but no matter what I do it won't latch when I close the trunk. I've taken off the locking bar and used to lock the latch and it will but whenever bolted back onto the trunk nothing. Any ideas?

Just sounds like the latch is sticking, won't allow it to grab the bar. Try spraying rust check in there and working it back and worth

already did, first thing I tried still isn't ka-ching to the bar. Latch isn't sticking, works fine but when I close it it doesn't even seem like its hitting the latch to lock it. Ive tried realigning it, putting washers on it to extended. I've tried everything I can think of with trying to align it

Check the cable and make sure it isn't getting bound up. I had the same problem. The plastic cable retainer had come loose and the cable was bound up and keeping latch in the open position.

Totally likely that your 25 year old latch is done too. I replaced my '00 one a few years ago with a junkyard part for $5 after I took it apart to inspect and found its innards falling apart. If basic lubrication and adjustment don't fix it immediately just go get another one and be done with it.
