Hey guys new to the thread and i have head alot about using vitara pistons 180 degrees for boost in d16z6 motors ...whos done this using stock rods and hows the outcome?
my build is a 94 ex coupe ..ebay turbo kit, vitara teflon coats 75mm, rehone 75mm cyl bore, king rod n main bearings & thrust washers, 4bar map, wideband o2, and bigger injectors and fuel pump re gulator setup (not yet sourced) ,vms adj camgear, brand new fresh rebuilt z6 head...
..wat else do i need or need to do...im a machinist and am very mechanically inclined a d was a mechanic for 7 years and have built many honda motors..this will be the first build for boost for me...i am checkin crank tommar to see if its within spec on rods and mains n warpage ..the donor motor looked beautiful inside bearings smooth mo copper n cylinder wall are smooth with wat look to be factory cross hatching.....will post results of crank along with bearing install and plastigauge

Ok so it looks like a new rod and piston combo...ive only heard of vitara pistons to reduce comp. For turbo applications ... whats max boost for stock internals...has anyone ever actually tried it? Ive looked n i always see vitara pistons in every build. Thanx fellas

Most guys dont push past 250ish (dynojet) with stock d-series. find some 10:1 forged pistons and forged rods and the sleeves should hold 400 no problem
The crank is home now, i inspected at work tolerances all within spec and no scuffs or scores...am ordering a set of h beam type rods, and honing cylinders this week along with rebuilding and getting this z6 head fresh as can be.. any spring and retainer suggestions that are budget friendly. after market or oem swap??
BC springs are good budget option and just reuse the stock retainers, Also P2p0.com has rods specifically designed for vitara pistons that raise the compression a little and are more affordable than a set of Eagles
vitaras and eagles gives you just a shade under 8:1 static compression everything else being equal. its pretty low. you can add a crap ton of timing in vacuum to help out the "sluggishness" but you will find yourself getting worse mpg and having to drive around at like 25% throttle whereas normally you will be at like 10%.
Whats your power goal ultimately? You can reasonably use the stock head for a few hundred whp, at least imo up to/through 300whp. My last vitara setup was up around 250-275whp on the stock head, 7400 rev limit it didnt give me a lick of issues. I always wanted to put the zex cam i think its the 59300 or something like that in one of my boosted sohc's but never got around to it. The cam seems to perform well as would any mild to medium all motor cam.
