MCU or a ground or ? 2002 Civic EX 4D, AT
Hi and thanks in advance for all the great advice I'm going to get!
My daughter has a 2002 Civic EX 4D, AT. Over the past year, she has had a lot of problems and a lot of repairs and we can't afford a newer car or continuing monthly trips to a shop (she is paying her way through college and I'm a 2nd grade teacher). 1. Oil leak - had the valve cover gasket replaced along with fouled plugs. One year later, it appears to be leaking again. 2. New battery - car wouldn't start Autozone said it was a defective battery. solved. 3. Catalytic converter - throwing a code. Solved. 4. O2 sensor - throwing a code. Replaced. Solved? 5. Fuel pump and filter. - I don't remember if it was throwing a code or if we did it due to the rough idle, stalling, lack of power. Still stalling, lack of power.
So the problem is that her car is still stalling, but only occasionally. It shifts rough, esp from 2nd 3rd (automatic). It has a slightly rough/erratic idle. Two days ago the "brake" light on her dash came on even though the reservoir is filled to Max. Then her master control lock quit yesterday. Today her A/C fan is coming on, but the compressor is not. Her open door chimes quit awhile ago, too. I've read tons of threads and they talk about 1. Alternator mounting bolts. 2. Ground wires. 3. ECM. 4. MCU. Oh and I pulled the fuse for the master control lock and it is not blown. None of the main fuses that you can see through the top of the fuse under the hood are blown.
Would you A. Have somebody check all the ground wires. B. Replace the MCU and is there an easy test to help narrow if that is the cause. C. Check alternator bolts.
Thanks!
Marie
