I've recently acquired a 4th gen to turn into my next Lemons/Chump racer. I want to replace all the suspension wear items- the front parts and pieces are pretty easy to source, the rear not so much. I plan on doing poly bushings through out, but I'm having a hard time with the ball joints (one in particular). Excuse my verbiage if I'm not calling the pieces by their proper names. The upper-arm ball joint appears to be able to be replaced by the same one as the front upper, so that's fine. The rear toe control arm, as I found in another thread, can be replaced by the complete arm from a 5th gen- fine. The real question I have is what about the ball joint in the knuckle? Is there a known replacement for it? I could just re-boot it if I had to, as there's no noticeable movement in it (the boot is dry rotten) but I would prefer to replace it.

 

Atleast I founded replacement part lower rear ball joint for 5th gen - It have been working ok till this day

 

Are you saying the ball joint on the knuckle of the 5th gen will work on the 4th? Do you have a place to buy it?

 

Im saying that I found ones for my 5th gen from our local parts store.

Your job to find out does 5th gen parts fit 4th gen and where to get em

 

the rear uppers can be replaced with 5th gen base ones there cheaper and stronger 4th gen ones are like 150$ ea

 

Have you done this yourself or just read about it? Curious because mine will need replacing eventually.

On a 5th gen the lower ball joints are the same for the front and rear. I bought some OEM ones from the TSB recall kit.

 

Thank you- I also found a thread showing that 4th gen lowers are the same front to rear.
