Default Digging the Horse Out of the Grave - Best Header for Built B20V?

I know this has been done before, once in a 2011 post that included a fair bit of testing with posted dyno results on an otherwise stock ITR motor.

Since it's been 6 years I'm just curious to see if anything new has come up, or if this has been tested on more modified platforms. I'll keep this short and simple.

Engine is B20 VTEC, 85x89, 12.5:1 high compression. Oversized valves, P&P head, Ultra Street intake. I'm looking for a Tri-Y 4-2-1 design with stepped primaries.

The three headers I'm considering: Blox Max-Flo, Skunk2 Alpha, and the 1320 Toda Replica. All exhausts are going to have their 2.5" collector chopped of by me and replaced with a 2.5->3" conical adapter to mate to a full 3" straight through exhaust.

1320 Performance Toda style header

The Blox can be had on JHPUSA for $650, making it still the most expensive but not by quite the ridiculous margin they have it listed on their site for. I know Skunk2 is the weapon of choice by most on these boards, but if anyone knows more about the design and output of these headers let me know.

Anyone know what size increments the primaries on the Skunk2 manifold go by? The Blox and 1320/Toda are 45-50-55+, I'd imagine the S2 would be the same. Kinda thinking all of these would end up having within a couple HP of one another at the peak end, but more curious about the midrange punch and "meat" of the band.

I would go with a Whitfield performance b series header with their 3" collector. I have seen them go on sale on their IG for around $600 from time to time.

i have a similar b20vtec as you and made 220whp with a hytech big tube replica and 3" exhaust..check the fs section too I think currently there is a dtr street sweeper and a few other nice used headers.

Looks like it requires removal of the AC which is a no go for this application, interesting suggestion though; hadn't heard of that manufacture before.

Looks like SMSP or Toda could be the way to go... All of the more popular headers in these tests seem to be within a couple HP of one another throughout the entire curve.

Thinking I may end up going with the Toda for ground clearance and midrange, looks like it does well there. Still kinda looking around though, lots of great options. SMSP is another consideration.

Decide quick before more other players in the game decide to call it quits.

You're not going to shake the world with a couple of extra ponies. Go for fitment, clearance, utility, quality materials.. BAM.

I like my SMSP rep header clearance. Fitment is bad though, had to be reworked and still isn't "perfect"

Where did you get your replica from? The 1320 makes look pretty solid. I've pretty much decided to get either their Toda or SMSP here soon.

Mine is a PLM replica. The collector area wasn't straight and it ended kind of angled, so I had it fixed. On a B20VTEC with an OEM oil pan, it would hit the pan. When I switched to a Moroso, it did not. Not sure why.

Why are you asking about "best headers" and then talking about replicas?

Sheepy/Myers/ASP/DTR are all much, much better than any header listed in this thread.

I'm confused.

I can't easily find a retailer for Myers or DTR, and frankly if I'm dumping $1K+ on a product I don't really think it should be up to me to hunt for some vendor or directly call someone. I'm still ultimately looking for an off the shelf model.

ASP looks very nice, I especially like the fact it comes defacto with a 3" vband output, but I'm not looking for a 4-1 design.

Sheepy quite honestly I didn't know still made N/A B headers, so that's interesting and worth looking into. Just need to decide if their design is actually worth an extra +$1200 what one of the 1320's would run, lol...

Not sure if anyone else has this problem, but the camp 1320 big tube smsp rep header on my b20 ek chassis has a poor o2 sensor placement.

The o2 sensor is inbetween the steering rack and subframe webbing and even with hasport mounts it causes it to bend and requires periodic replacement.

If you go the 1320 camp route get a good mounting location in the the test pipe. In my case the wideband is mounted in the test pipe.

Thanks for the heads up, appreciate the info because that's the one we'll be getting.

I'll probably side-mount the O2 sensor when we put on that conical 2.5->3" adapter.
