Input Needed For UpcomingManual Steering Rack Purchase
1995 EX Coupe, M/T, B20B, 85k miles
Planning to remove current steering rack (p/s disconnected and no ps pump) and install a manual steering rack. Would like opinions on the following options of purchase:
1) Used OEM (pulled) from local salvage yard $40-$60
2) Used "A" condition OEM from this site: Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market $50 to $125
3) Remanufactured OEM for $150
4) New aftermarket for $100-$130
*New a reman includes new inner tie rods.

Don't forget you will also need to get a subframe as the mounts for Manual and PS are different.
But if I was sticking to the factory manual rack I would do #3 in your list for the price points you have.
But really, I think I would want an upgrade so I would go to the salvage yard and pull the 94-01 integra ps rack and do the loopback trick, or do the drill holes through the rack chamber plate to convert it to a manual type without needing the loopback like I saw in another DIY.
Then you have the fastest LTL and it already fits your subframe.

Found the write up I preferred to convert PS to manual. And it was grinding and cold chiseling that allowed the plate to be removed from the rack. Stops the need to loop and you can just cap the PS fluid junctions.
This is how I converted to a manual rack

I plan to e-mail or call this company: https://detroitaxle.com/shop/steerin...FYY8gQodREgCcQ to verify if it's a reman OE/OEM and what's involved in the reman process

I 've read a few post related to the 94-01 Integra rack swap and quicker LTL due to pinion ratio. I'll look into it.
This thread: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-...-pics-2861559/ provides some clarification.
Thanks everyone for all the input. I've been sitting on this since I purchased the car four months ago.The cheapest route will be used OEM so..leaning that way with an Integra swap as Tomcat suggested.
If, I go the base model 5th gen manual rack ..this guy shows a bracket mod that may work:

I never understood the appeal of depowering a power rack. The ratio is quicker, but that also makes it harder to steer. I drive a Civic with a proper manual rack, the steering is fine when you're drive it, even at low speeds, but parallel parking isn't a whole lot of fun and I can't imagine wanting even more steering effort.
Nope. '92 - '95. '96 - '00 are the same between power and manual racks.

For DD, probably a pita.
I have tossed it back and forth and ideally I have humored the idea an electric power steering pump like from a saturn coupled to an integra PS rack.
I suspect that is one reason the Quaife unit for the 5th gen manual rack is 3.25 LTL not the 2.8 it is on the EF's which are minimum 500 pounds lighter I've been told.
Agree parallel parking sucks hard but, other than that much more fun to drive compared to PS,,with seemingly more feedback. The previous owner gave me the power steering pump and correct mounting bracket but, like it manual and the small gain in power compared to PS.
Finally decided on reusing current power steering with same mods listed here: http://www.d-series.org/forums/diy-f...teezz-way.html
Ease of fitment and better LTL ratio than factory manual steering rack. Purchasing new inner + outer tie rods and bellow boots. Was considering using 94-01 Integra pinion gear swap: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-...-rack-2422762/ for an improved LTL ratio but, not really into scouring a junkyard and can't seem to find one online.
The current rack does make an intermittent clunking noise during turns. Since the boots are torn I can see the rack's gear teeth appear to pop up or possibly skip. Does this mean bushings will need to be replaced?
