Icon5 How to fix coolant sensor issues?

Hi I'm not exactly knowledgeable in cars I know a bit, but nothing crazy. So my issue is that my coolant sensor connector is broken lol and I've gotten one from a junkyard to solder into the wires but it doesn't fit into the sensor, now I've gone to O'Reillys to try to get the right sensor and I've gotten 3 different ones I also didn't actually try removing the sensor and putting the new one in with any of them but I just sized them up next to each other and every sensor was smaller than the one I have on, I even told them what kind of engine I had and everything so they can find the right sensor but it was still small, maybe I should've actually swapped them out to see if they fit but I didn't because I thought they wouldn't due to size difference. Any suggestions or insight? And thanks in advance. By the way my accord is a 1990 Ex.

Did you get a connector from the same model and trim ? It should be the same for basically any 90-97 accord and 92-96 prelude and even more cars than that. That connector is the same for about 4 connectors for your car. I can't really see how you can get the wrong one. Just go back to the junkyard and take the one from your car off and find the same one. Just chop it off and take it with you. When putting another back on, just use 3m heat shrink butt connectors. When you crimp it on, you use a lighter to heat up the plastic and it will melt around the crimp and create a nice tight seal.

Also, that sensor will come up as "coolant sensor water outlet housing", however, it's not likely to be bad and if you choose to replace it it would be best to get it directly from Honda. The parts stores tend to have extremely inferior quality parts and they rarely last even half as long. In fact, unless it's extremely hot out it's unlikely that sensor will need to even be working. It only serves to turn the passenger side fan on when the car has just been driven and the key is out of the ignition and the engine is really hot.
