Default 1998 Civic HX HELP!!

Hello, I have a 1998 Civic HX. Has a D16Y5, a P2N ECU, Manual and I am in need of a harness (I literally......Can not find a single one) bought the car without one, might have been jipped on the car lol. But I do need a harness, is there any other motor harnesses I can use? I realize I have an awkward o2 versus others, can I convert or add a wire or something? What else can I do? I have a Y8 head that needs to be rebuilt in the shed...Would it be easier to add that and modify something different? I need your guy's inputs and gotta get this car moving!

most harnesses are interchangeable as long as its the same OBD kind if that makes sense and the only difference between most harnesses are between the VTEC and Non-VTEC ones

The HX is considerably different, though as far as the harness goes it would be that there is a 5 wire O2 sensor and an EGR valve. If you have the diagrams of both versions you could add plugs and wires as needed. Definitely keep only HX parts on your HX. The pistons are different you can't simply slap a Y8 head on and call it an EX.

So, let's say I buy a Y8 harness (being I simply cannot find a Y5 harness) with the correct ECU wiring. (implying ODB2A) Can I just add the extra wire for the o2 and wires for the EGR? Annnd, theoretically it'd work yes?

After messing with my Y5 harness and converting the factory wideband 02 to a normal 4 wire heated 02 on the upstream, I had a CEL I couldn't get rid of. My advice would be to find a Y8 harness, install the Y8 head, and run a stock Y8 ECU. The bottom end of the Y5 is pretty much identical to a Y8 and that way you'll have an engine that is less finicky and easier to source parts for. Y5's are very temperamental about 02 sensors, carbon build up, and EGR components.

So, with the amount of $ involved with that...Would it just be better to buy a b16 or b18 off Ebay and do a swap?

Depends on how much you can find a Y8 Harness and ECU for. If you already have the Y8 head, all you need to do is swap the cam and rocker assembly onto the Y5 head. Y5 and Y8 head castings are identical and a Y5 head will take all the internals of the Y8 head without having to replace the head gasket or touch the valves. Just make sure to set your valve lash if you are going that route.

I bought a harness for $35, looked at ECU's last night. I believe I'd need a P2P right? For one for $50. And how would I set valve lash?

dude you need the free shop manual.

a used haynes manual is well worth the 10 clams or so imho.
check ebay/allbookstores/bookfinder.

Please do, I've been told so many different things. That's where I'm most confused. I'm assuming I'd gap them to the Y8 sets?
