The D16Y5 engine wiring harness part numbers are different between 96-97, 98, and 99-00. Anybody know what the difference is? As I understand, the HX's ECU was obd2a through all years of production and did not convert to obd2b like the rest of them.

prob just the diffirence in o2 sensor wiring i know the hx is the lean burn model and uses a 7 wire o2 sensor rather then the 4 wire for most other modles

I think you misunderstood my question. I'm talking about the HX only, as in different wiring harnesses for different years within HX production.

You're right that the HX is lean-burn. It uses a 5-wire O2 sensor and an EGR valve as well, so its wiring harness is definitely different than the others'.

all hx motors i believe had the same harness besides if it was obd1 or obd2a or obd2b. there is a difference between a 96-98 ecu and 99-00 ecu the pin layout is different.

I'm not clear on what you mean. The 96-2000 HX was never made with obd1 or obd2b. It was only obd2a, the entire time.

Are you talking about the difference between obd2a and obd2b?

Or are you talking about different pin layouts within the HX's obd2a ECU between 96 and 2000?

Like I said in my first post, the 96-2000 HX did not switch over to obd2b for 99 and 00 like the rest of the Civics did. It stayed obd2a for its' entire production life.

Basically I'm wondering if one of the sensors changed (different connector) or if the harness routing changed, or ????

all the sensor plugs should be the same as long as u keep the same ecu you will be ok. i mixed it up because the hx was what took over the obd1 vx hatch. so all hx's are obd2 but there is a difference between obd2a and obd2b ecus and harness's due to different pin outs. so yes there is obd2b hx harness's in the 99-00. what ever harness u use u use the same ecu it came from and it will plug and play weather the motor came out of a 00 or a 98 the engine or sensors did not change.
