Default 97 honda civic dx oil leak

Can anyone tell me what this canister above my oil filter is?? Its the black canister that is leaking oil and has the light shining on it. Does anyone know what it does and or how hard it is to replace? It is the black canister above my oil filter with the 3 lines on the face of it.

It is the breather box portion of the PCV system.

Please see the parts list here:

This picture is from that parts list:

Seal #8, #2 and even the PCV tube #4 quite typically need to be replaced on these vehicles as the rubber is hard, brittle and more plastic like than rubber like.

I just tore it all apart n replaced the pcv valve and the hose is okay it is still rubbery but the seal #8 i know is hard and #2 i would have to pull it off and look.... Do i have to remove the intake to do this?? Or can i come up threw the bottom?? Also it has 230k miles on it... So i am sure some of my issue is blow by considering the motor is so old... It doesn't burn oil or smoke but i am sure some of the compression is getting past the rings into the crank case.

Space is tight from bottom but can be done.

Like civic402lx said, it's tight but it can be done. A good pair of angled needle nose pliers and a lot of patience are key.

#2 is the grommet in the breather box you pulled the PCV valve out of. And if you already gotten to #8 then it sounds like you have already pulled the breather box off the block. As such, getting to the grommet should be no problem being you should have the breather box in hand at your work bench. If you don't then you haven't been able to get to seal #8 yet. It's on the tube of the breather box that is shoved into the block.

I apologize i had them back words #2 i know is hard and #8 ill have to pull it out to see what kinda shape it is in... I repalced the pcv valve and the gromet was very hard n stiff. I am doing the clutch in 2 weeks so i am going to tear it all apart n replace seals then.
