Need Help please 97 hatch not starting/cranking.
I drove the car abut 20 miles to an appointment this afternoon. Left the appointment just fine. Got off at my exit, pressed the clutch and brake to stop. The car turned off and would not crank over at all.
I had problems with the idle and the car staying on for the last couple of weeks. I replaced, Distro cap and rotor, Plugs NGK, NGK plug wires. last week. and then the IACV yesterday car was running fine after swap. I did not have time to clear the codes though.
When I try to start the car:
All normal lights come on and are bright.
All electronics work in the car ie fan/radio/lights/hazards and what not.
I hear 1 click from a relay on the left side of the car under the dash
I do not hear the fuel pump
The Starter does not click or turn at all.
I tried looking at the Main Relay and didn't see any solder joints that were bad. I did order another one just in case though.
Any other thoughts or help would be much appreciated

If possible, get starter, battery and alternator tested at a parts store.
To test for fuel (pump) loosen the banjo bolt at the fuel filter, have helper turn key to start and watch for gas to pour out. However, even if fuel does pour out it doesn't show wether fuel pressure is within spec. A weak fuel pump with lower than proper spec can also cause idle and starting issues.
Main relay, starter, coil and ICM are also possibilities.

Check the battery terminals and the main power and ground wires. You can jump the starter under the hood to test the starter, battery, and connections between them:
Leave the ignition key turned off.
Put manual transmission in neutral, automatic in park. Set the brake.
Unplug the small wire from the starter. Use a piece of wire to connect the small terminal on the starter to the battery + terminal
The starter should turn and crank the engine. It will not start of course because the key is off.

Alright more info for ya guys
I got the new main relay no changes in the symptoms
I had another ecu switched it out again no changes
I checked all the fuses in the car both under the hood and in the car
I jumped the starter it sparks and it turned over but did not start the car

Having it at least crank by turning the key has nothing to do with the main relay or any other part of the ECU system.
Perhaps the main fuse is blown. When you turn key on, do the oil, battery, and check engine lights on the dash come on?

If you leave the key on and don't try to crank, does the check engine light go out after 2 seconds? Also, the fuel pump should run for the 2 seconds the CEL is on and then stop.
Ok i just took a video of what i am getting when i try to start it. appearntly there is no engine light coming on and fuel pump does hum but the brake light comes on when i hit the clutch.
