Car sat for 5 years and the last two weeks I've been trying to revive it as a daily driver for the lady..

I fixed a coolant leak in the connecting pipe going to the thermostat housing this weekend and now the car is running great and not overheating.

My problem is that in 2 months it will be 120 and my fans are mixed up.

The AC fan is coming on when the car gets warm instead of my radiator fan.. New Waterpump and timing belt, new thermostat, New coolant and System was bled. Fan motor is good. It pops on when I jump it. Relay is brand new. Fuses are all brand new on the car under dash and hood. Only AC fan comes on when the AC is engaged.

 

Check all the temp switches. the one on the front water neck should be one for the fan, and will kick it on even when the key is off if too hot.

 

I am thinking it's my switch on the water inlet/upper radiator hose..

but shouldnot my sensors be back wards? The one on the thermostat should be for the radiator fan correct?

 

There is more than one that controls the fans, test them all. The very front one on the head will give a check engine light if it fails, the others, I am not sure about.

 

I don't want to bandage anything up. I wanna curb the issue right now.before it becomes 120 here in Phoenix everyday.

I put 2 of 3 new sensors in the vehicle for the cooling system, I haven't found the 3rd yet. ( the auto stores around don't even carry it.) The vehicle was also drained of coolant and got brand.new green 50/50. Bought all brand new fuses and replaced all possible.

Seem to have found a non factory set of blue wires going from under the driver side to the passenger side floor board. I'm thinking it's just the alarm. I am looking for the fan timer control module. Is this underneath the dash completely?

Car is still running great. Ac fan still turning on for radiation fan instead.

New issue the brake lights won't turn off on the car. Came home from work and everything was hot and on even with the keys out of the car. Is this a bad brake lamp switch?

 

Doesn't sound like fan connections are "mixed up". Both fans are supposed to come on when the coolant heats up, so if just the condenser fan is kicking on, then you have a connection problem somewhere.

One fan kicking on means:
1. Blown No. 47 (15 A) fuse (In the under-hood fuse/relay box) (Which you say is brand new)
2. Radiator fan relay (Which you say is brand new)
3. Radiator fan motor (Which you say you've tested)
4. Poor ground
5. Open circuit, loose or disconnected terminals

No sensors or switches will cause only one fan to kick on though. So scratch that off the list. Follow the wires starting from the radiator fan. Check each section for continuity with a multi-meter. If 1, 2, and 3 are absolutely not the problem (I would double check each one), you should find your disconnection somewhere.

Also, for the brake lights being on constantly; check the brake pedal. There is a rubber stopper on it that makes contact with a switch. If the rubber piece is broken or missing, that would probably be it. They often get brittle and crumble apart after so many years.
