Default EK Engine Swap

I know this topic is all over the place, but when i searched HT, i couldn't find the info that i wanted. I'm gettin a '96 Civic Hatch... What engine swap offers the best compromise between value, acceleration, and handling?

I like the b18b. Cheapest for the year you need to get to stay compliant. Also has pretty good acceleration

B18B is cheap and reliable.. but I say b20b or b20z w/GSR tranny LS intake manifold.. JDM ITR exhaust manifold..and a LS ECU not a bad swap and u can easily source most of the parts for the same price as a LS swap

but I also have a LS swap w/gsr swap in a 98htbk.. quick enough for daily driving I just can't run a camaro or anything =P and the 7k rpm redline kills the party =P

Whats the best engine swap you could do then? Might have some money in a bit, and think it'll have to go on a swap.

For your car I would say atleast a B18C1, LSVTEC OR B20CVTEC. You have to remember EK's are heavy so you need the horsepower advantage that you can't get with the B16's. But that's my opinion.

for the cost i would go JDM B18C. 178HP@7600rpm and 129ft.lb. torque@5200 rpm. Right out of the box. However a JDM H22A would be nice for a stock swap. If your planning to do upgrades go B- series.

If I want to go turbo, but want more than 1.6liters, what do you think would be the best? I'ma have between $3000-4000 to do the swap, but the more money i can save, the better.

b18bs are pretty cheap and relatively easy to set up with a custom turbo kit.

"custom" also can read "best that you can sneak out of a junkyard"

ek's aren't that heavy about 2400 lbs do a search there was a long post on the subject of weights. depending on what u want from the car there is always the sohc vtec (z6,y8) wich can be found dirt cheap. if u want to go the b-series route and are on budget just go with a b18b for now, u can always get a vtec head for it later or maybe just get some cams for the non-vtec head and have it ported.

IMO, the best reliable swap you can do with no worries is to go with the B18C5. Honda built that engine very well. I have several friends that own a Type R (DC and hybrid) and all of them are very satisfied. They just hate that some parts are on back order. That swap is well worth it.

wat you plan to do? just drive for fun? road race? auto x? drag? it all depends on what you want, overall i'd say get a b18c1....if u want to road race/auto x and have money b18c5? kinda pricey, drag i'd say any b18 or b20 but get it resleeve like darton or golden eagle and boost.....good luck
