97 Honda civic Lx - Overheating - Oil in coolant reservoir
Hi guys I'm new to the Honda world parking my Bmw 535xi twin turbo to a 97 Honda civic Lx.
A friend gifted the car to me it had oil in the coolant tank and it was overheating they told me it was the valve cover gasket. I replace the gasket and flush the old antifreeze in the system.
Now the problem is when i remote start the car in the morning the temp gauge goes to what i think is the normal operating temp but after i start driving the temp drops all the way down to the C.
What might be the cause of this issue?

I tend to think you may have a an air pocket in the cooling system.
You may also have a bad head gasket. And possibly a warped head.
A valve cover gasket will not cause the car to overheat.

thanks for the reply.
forgot to mention car was not doing this before i all started a few days after i did the work on it.
Note: I remove the thermostat gasket and did not put it back.
the way you wrote your original post is a bit confusing. it sounds like the issue is it warms up to what you think is normal operating temp but you're not sure then when you drive it it goes down to C on the gauge? normal operating temp is basically right in middle on the temp gauge between C and H, maybe slightly closer to C, if its in the middle then goes down when driving id assume your thermostat is malfunctioning
Other than what you have stated is the car driving funny. When you drive the car and it drops to c does it ever go to normal I have also heard of some thermostats that make the car run cooler for performance motors but if it bothers you change the thermostat and see if that fixes it if it were me and my car was running good just cooler I would be like hell yea as long as the cooling system is running properly and all is on up and up But idk that's just my .02

Normal?
It does not goes past that until i start driving in the highway that it goes down to C.
I'm surprised you are not leaking coolant. The gasket prevents coolant from passing the thermostat. Without it, coolant flows all the time. This is very likely why your temp drops when driving. The coolant is allowed to become too cool. Very much like driving without a thermostat at all.

Replace the thermo and added the gasket today and drove the car for 30 minutes and got steady temp for now.
