Default D17A8

Hi there guys I have a quick question regarding the D17A8 engines I am looking to purchase this brand new engine block but its says D17A8 I have a 2001 Honda civic with D17A1 motor in it. The difference between the two that I found is first the D17A8 comes in a coupe Honda civic in Europe the only difference in specs are the compression ration which D17A1 (current motor) 9.5:1 where as the D17A8 has 9.9:1 all other specs are identical does any one know there may be a difference that I am not aware any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would hazard a guess by the CR difference is that the D17A1 has the non existent quench pad dish pistons PLM-A0 pistons and the D17A8 uses the small quench pad PLR A0 pistons.

These pistons can be seen here in this post:

A D17A8 has more in common with the D17A2, then the D17A1.

So that being said it is not a Vtec as advertised in the add from the seller so my question is it will work with non Vtec motor D17A1? Meaning if the new short block is added and D17A1 Head is installed there shouldn't be any issues? Greatly appreciate your response

Thanks for your response now the new short block for D17A8 that I am looking at is strange from the fact that the pistons says PLR A0 but they are dish identical to the eye like PLM AO would you happen to know why would that be?
