ok my problem is I would be driving and sometimes my speed needle would not catch the speed I'm going at and when it does the needle is not steady it's shaky..I have no cel for it And my vtec is not working..any help on how to fix either please
Checked oil to see if it was oil it's still good.would it be. Bad vss that's causing the speedo not working right?i looked around and said some say it would be the vss if it threw a code only so I don't know
Check voltage on your VTEC solenoid. Make sure u are getting power. Undo the cluster and check for loose connection. Check connection at vss. Look for corrosion and whether its fray or firmly seated.
If the CEL is on for any reason, VTEC will not engage. And as 09chaplak said, there will be a rev limiter of around 4500 rpm. If you can take it up to the normal redline and it does not throw VTEC code, the VTEC is probably working.
I think the speed sensor code and CEL are not set unless the ECU sees a prolonged reading of zero while it concludes the car must actually be moving (zero TPS but rpm above idle, indicating the car is coasting in gear)

Did this randomly start happening? Did you just buy the car? Did you do any recent mods done around the vtec solenoid/ top of tranny or gauge cluster? I'm assuming you're working with a D16Z6? More info will help us so we can help you.

no i bought the car like this.did nothing to it recently.its a built b20 vtec.it does throw a code 43 when I don't fully warm it up.
Is the odometer working properly? Drive a few miles on a road that has mile markers and check. If the odometer rolls steady and approximately correct, but the speedometer needle jumps around it is probably the speedometer head.
For SRS light you would pull the SRS code and go from there.
What I'm saying to check is your speed sensors first before doing any damage to the speedometer. The motors don't usually go and the solder usually doesn't have cold solder connections. Hence me saying that out of every car cluster we fix I've never personally pulled or worked on that year cluster. Chance of it being the cluster are very low if it wasn't altered.
You can check all your speed sensors and see if there's any damage. Also you can meter the speed sense wire behind the speedo it should read 65hz while doing 65 I can upload a photo of the pin out for the cluster while at work tomorrow. That will also tell you for free if it's your sensors or speedo.
looks like yellow with blue stripe going into cluster is your speed sense wire. tap into that run one to a multi meter and go for a drive. see what your signal is looking like while the speedo is jumping around.

odometer works gas gauge and rpm work.sometimes the temp gauge goes jumps around sometimes too but never to hot it's in the middle and cold.
Did u even pull the cluster out to see if the connection is secured?
did u check connection at the vss?
Last time I had forgotten to torque the left front wheel, tight but not torqued to spec, during a test dry the speedo went crazy. Erratic, jumpy. Torque wheel down and problem fixed.

Update I did check back connections to speedo everything looks good.also checked wires to vss.
