Default D16Y8 engine

I have a 2000 Civic EX with a seized D16Y8 engine (due to a no oil condition). The car has an automatic transmission and about 250K miles. What models/years have this engine? Is there another engine that will bolt in with no or little amount of modifications?

'99 - '00 EX automatic will be an exact match. Drop in and go. '99 - '00 EX manual uses the same engine except for the intake manifold, swap intake manifold and it's a direct drop in. '96 - '98 D16Y8s are slightly different (they don't have air injection) but they will work, I just can't remember if the ECU will throw a CEL if the air injection setup isn't working.

Your head may still be OK. In that case you can swap it onto the short block of a D16Y7 and have the equivalent of a Y8. Or put a whole D16Y7 in and run the car non-VTEC. That requires swapping the ECU.

It also requires swapping the transmission as well.

any vtec d series long block will fit with what you got as long as its vtec you wont need an another ecu all you need to do is use your obd2 sensors intake manifold with throttle body your distributor and everything else should bolt up to your current tranny your exhaust manifold will bolt up also.

Not sure if i should post here or where but i replaced my head gasket on d16y8 due to oil leak on front left corner. Had head resurfaced and new bolts torqued to 49ftlb and still have slight leak in same area. Can i increase torque on head bolts? Any other suggestions?

theres a button on top of the threads page that says new thread find where you should post probably in tech and then click the buton and post away also need more details where the leak is and that sound to me like a warped head if you take the head off you can tell if its warped if the cam does not spin freely with the caps off or a warped deck the list goes on vtec solenoid leaking also a head gasket does not stop oil leaks you maybe changed the valve cover gasket do some reasearch before you blasted with the comments good luck

Don't have my helms manny in front of me but I'm fairly certain the head bolts get more than 49 ftlbs.....
